SME Bank of Cambodia (Small and Medium Enterprise Bank of Cambodia Plc.) is a state-owned policy bank established by the Royal Government of Cambodia to improve access to finance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The bank received its commercial banking license from the National Bank of Cambodia on 27 February 2020 and officially launched operations in April 2020. It operates under the technical and financial guidance of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, reflecting its role in supporting national economic development policies.
Unlike traditional commercial banks, SME Bank of Cambodia focuses primarily on financing businesses in priority sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and technology. Through initiatives such as the SME Co-Financing Scheme, the bank provides affordable loans to SMEs, with funding supported by both government resources and participating financial institutions. These programs aim to stimulate local production, strengthen supply chains, and promote economic diversification in Cambodia.
Headquartered in Phnom Penh, SME Bank of Cambodia positions itself as a strategic partner for entrepreneurs and business owners. The bank also collaborates with financial institutions, SME associations, and development partners to expand access to financing and support business growth across the country. Over time, the bank has disbursed hundreds of millions of dollars in loans to thousands of SMEs, contributing to job creation and economic resilience.
As a government-backed institution, SME Bank of Cambodia plays a key role in strengthening Cambodia’s SME sector and supporting sustainable economic growth through targeted financial solutions and development programs.
